Six common reasons UK passport holders are denied travel
UK passport holders can be declined travel for a variety of reasons, especially at the gate or immigration. Here are six of the most common reasons our customers have been denied travel.
Expired Passport: A passport that has expired or does not have the required validity period (often six months beyond the intended stay) for the destination country. Since Brexit, your passport is valid for 10 years from the date of issue.
Incorrect or NO Visa: Failure to obtain the necessary visa or travel authorization for the destination country. You need the right Visa for your visit for example some countries have several different work visas, so choose the wrong one and you will be declined entry.
Insufficient Passport Pages: Not having enough blank pages in the passport for entry/exit stamps or visas. If you have less than two blank pages in your passport it’s time to renew, if you are a regular traveller, you could get a Jumbo passport, or if you travel regularly for business a second passport.
Damaged Passport: Physical damage to the passport that affects the personal information page, photograph, or machine-readable zone, making it difficult to verify the traveller’s identity. If the chip inside your passport is damaged you can often still travel but it will add time getting through the airport, our advice is it’s time to get a new passport.
Reported Lost or Stolen: A passport that has been reported lost or stolen and subsequently found will be invalid for travel as it has been cancelled in the system. You will not be able to travel and will need to renew your lost passport.
Incorrect or Incomplete Documentation: Missing essential travel documents such as boarding passes, proof of onward travel, proof of accommodation, or travel insurance. This is where using a Visa Agent works. We check your application, process the visa on your behalf (by hand) and get it back to you.
Ensuring all travel documents are in order, understanding the entry requirements of the destination country, and adhering to all travel guidelines can help mitigate the risk of being declined travel.
